Threat Assessment

Tonight through Thursday

Winter Storm Warning: Lenoir, Greene, Pitt, Beaufort, Martin, Tyrrell, and Washington counties in eastern North Carolina.

Winter Weather Advisory: Duplin, Onslow, Jones, Craven, Carteret, Pamlico, Hyde, and Dare counties.

Timing: 7pm this evening to 10am Thursday morning.

Impacts – Inland Counties: Highest snow accumulations are expected across northern portions of Lenoir, Greene, Pitt, Beaufort, Washington, Tyrrell, and Martin Counties late this evening into Thursday morning. 3 to 5 inches of snow and sleet is expected, possibly mixed with some light freezing rain, leading to dangerous travel conditions especially after midnight lasting through the Thursday morning commute.

Impacts – Coastal Counties: A wintry mix will be possible along the coastal counties from Onslow northeast to Hyde and Dare Counties, where snow and sleet accumulations will be 1 to 2 inches, possibly mixed with some light freezing rain Thursday morning. Locations along the immediate coast will transition to mostly rain tonight. Dangerous travel conditions will be possible late tonight through early Thursday morning.

Temperatures Thursday night will drop back into the 20s and lower 30s. With chance of precipitation continuing into the evening hours, this will create the possibility of black ice into Friday morning.
